The bottom line is a dealer has all kind of tricks up their sleeve to make the sticker price what you want. Sometimes they well add the incentives to you trade so on paper it looks like you got a great trade in deal. The best trick is on people who don't know how much they owe. See you just tell them the owe more then they do and use that money to buy down the sticker price. My dad was a general manager at a dealership all his life and all they really do is move around numbers in tell you are happy. When I say I paid 43000 that is the end price with tax and all the other crap added in. Like I said if you are just looking for a sticker price their are a bunch of ways to make you happy the real number is the full bottom line price after everything is added in. Good luck with the stealership.

That is why I will negotiate a price for the vehicle first, then talk about trade. When they start asking about payments and trade and all that , I will just stick to the price of the truck. My truck I actually negotiated the price before walking on the lot. Did it all on the net and phone. Then when I went in with my trade it was much easier to get the price I wanted.

Are you saying that some people will not validate what the dealer tell them about what they owe on their trade in?! That's pretty naive but I can see it happening. An easy way to make few 100$ for a dealer!

I personally always call myself the credit company and never talk about my trade in at first!

This is a ridiculous thread. You blame the dealer for you buying a 2012 truck and wanting to trade it in a few months later for a newer truck and they didn't give you a good price? Gotta pay to play....or do better research before such a big purchase.

I like guys who trade in their truck within a year of buying it brand new. This makes it possible for guys like me to buy a truck with super low miles and save $10-15k over the price of a new truck.

I hope you realize the sticker price isn't actually the price of the truck. Ford prices their trucks high and then when you go to purchase, you get 6k+ in discounts and incentives so they make you think you're getting a deal when really you're not. For example, my truck was 43k sticker (3.7 4x4 supercab XLT) but I paid 31k out the door. I even think 31k is too expensive for my truck...

My sticker was 54,000 and with rebates got them down to 40,500.
