i was running a level kit, starting hearing a knock, took the level out, duplicated the problem on a stock truck. Went through this a couple of times until i just said the hell with the level kit.

in parallel, the racks have been updated and they seem to be solid. quality is iffy because nexteer has the racks manufactured in China. the issue is the input shafts coming out of the steering rack have play in them.

Hello, new member to the site, been visiting for about 2 years and finally signed up.
Been reading the pages of steering wheel pop/knocking. I've got it too. 2012 xlt 5.0.Has been doing it since new.Was told it was the steering wheel adjustment lever.
Live in Maine and now that the cold weather is here,it has started again. Thought I was the only one with this problem.Very aggravating. Have app. tomorrow morning to have it looked at again. I just got off the phone with Ford and is documented. We'll see what happens.
A lot of good info on here.

Mine is leveled and out of warranty.

Cold weather and it's back.

Has anyone looked into fixing this ourselves with shimming or washering?

How about a longer belt a P/S pump and mount and using the rack from a 6.2L hydraulic set up!!

Had the truck in this morning and they replaced the intermediate steering shaft.
Fixed......not really.I can still feel the popping.Weather here has warmed up so it isn't that noticeable. 34*.When it gets down to 20* or colder then it really acts up.Just waiting for it to get cold again.

Having a pop, thunk, whatever in my wife's expy. Took it back 6 mo ago and they replaced the steering shaft. Came back with the new one twice as bad. I haven't read back thru the thread, but has anybody tried anything to lube the steering shaft slip joint maybe. That is one of the few solid points between the cab and frame. If it is so snug, it's sticking, it will feel like a popping when it breaks loose due to cab flex on rubber chassis mounts...?. Just a thought.

Not sure if people are getting their issues resolved, or if they aren't commenting anymore because they are hopeless. My pop is back just slightly but no where near as bad when it was the original rack. Not sure if I'll take it back in to deal with them again. This is the first I have heard of it happening outside of the F150.

I resolved my steering popping issue by removing the front 2 inch level kit I had installed...popping sound hasn't come back.

I have had 3 diff. racks and a intermediate shaft installed on my truck they all seem to last till it gets cold then they rattle/pop again. no luck here...
sad thing is I really want to install my lift kit but unaware if it will make it worse... I had a 1.5 auto spring level kit in through the first 2 racks. then I took it off because dealer said so. now its back to stock and still doing it.
