Has nothing to do with the spacers. There has been a few on here that never did the leveling with spacers and have the problem. Sorry to hear your dealer made you remove them. I just think there was a large batch of problematic EPAS systems produced by one of Ford's vendors. Hopefully someday soon they fess up and issue a TSB and replace all that are having issues which is probably a very small percentage.

Default Steering pop/knocking

I've always been a GM person but recently made the switch to Ford and might regret it down the road...My 2012 F-150 FX-4 has steering issues, the remote start works intermittently, and the tail lights and break light on the cab always have condensation after rain/washing

Doesn't bode will for Ford build quality as I have 1,800 miles on the truck. The dealer plans to switch out the entire remote start system and will evaluate the knocking/popping on the steering wheel. Not looking forward to them changing the steering rack and going through a bunch of headaches. Definitely hasn't met my $40K expectations...

Your not alone. Ford will lose business over this, if mine does not get fixed soon I will never buy from them again. They have had 25k miles so far to get it right. At this point I'm wondering what the point of buying it new was. It sure wasn't more reliable. Toyota is calling my name... Never thought I would buy a non American truck. I guess I'll just wait and see what the new one is like. Ford really should be monitoring this forum. What a shame..

i know many of you are frustrated, but have you filed a complaint with the NHTSA?

These are all the complaints so far for the 2011 models... (scroll down on the page after clicking link)

http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2011/...g/problem.aspx

These are all the complaints so far for the 2012 models... (scroll down on the page after clicking link)

http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2012/...g/problem.aspx

i filed my complaint a few weeks ago and i saw it on there for the 2011s.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

if you think you will "wait" until ford fixes the problem think again.... YOU HAVE TO FILE A COMPLAINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ford has released 3 models (2011 - 2013) with the same known issue. this is a problem with the supplier (nexteer) and ford does not know how to fix it. i have worked with the dealer for a year now.... i have talked to field engineers who tell me it's in reasonable working order. your dealer CANNOT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. they will file a complaint with ford and it goes no where!!!!!

FILE A FREAKIN' complaint with NHTSA and stop complaining on the forum!!! NHTSA can force ford to do a recall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ford will not do a recall on their own.

(I AM ONLY BEING HONEST AND HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A FIX FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. I HOPE THIS INFO HELPS THE NEWBIES AND THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN AROUND HERE FOR A WHILE... STOP BEING LAZY)

Not to deny there is an issue, but is it really a safety issue? When you read the NHSTA complaints for other vehicles, they involve serious safety issues. Even the other steering problems on Ford cars are for complete loss of steering. These popping and bump issues have been on our trucks for three years now and the only complete failures were a little different and actually fixed by Ford. It would be great if the NHSTA approach would help, but I don't think the odds are in our favor.

the NHSTA will figure out if the problem is a safety issue or not, i suppose.

i'm not sure about your problem, but i have 15k on my truck, 3 racks, a lower steering shaft, and it feels like the front left wheel is going to fall off on the highway and at low speeds. i just want it fixed and in my own selfish way, if the NHSTA can get us there then great.

just file a complaint and lets see....

To those who may think "is this really a safety issue" - let me tell you what a nearby Ford dealer told me. The service writer said that two new F150's had total failure of the EPAS system without incident. The POTENTIAL does exist, and don't think that it does not. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a tragic accident with injuries or a death to get the attention of government agencies and the manufacturer. Ford is playing Russian roulette with this issue in an effort to keep the bean counters happy. We must keep the pressure on!
