Steering wheel popping over bumps/rough terrain

if anything it's hurting sales. when people ask me how i like my truck, the first thing i tell them about is the steering rack and how i have had problems and now it's annoying.
i don't consider myself a complainer, but i'm free to complain when i paid $40k in cash for something.

It will take Ford dealers seeing A LOT more service complaints with the EPAS before any changes will be made. Those of us that have posted our complaints here are a very, very small percentage of 2011/2012/2013 F150 owners. My dealer in San Diego is the largest dealer in the county, and I am the ONLY one that has come in with a steering complaint. I have decided to live with the "clunk" for at least 6 months or until next summer, and then check for any changes to the part number. Be patient. Be safe.

Thought I'd add my experiences.
Had my steering rack replaced at the dealer at around 17k miles. Less than 3k miles later and the popping is coming back. It's subtle but it's definitely starting to come back.
Not only is the popping frustrating but after the dealer installed my new steering rack, the alignment and my steering wheel was off on my truck. They gave me a BS excuse that because of my rims and 2"in AS leveling spacer, their alignment machines couldn't handle a proper alignment and that I'd have to go to an off-road truck place that specializes in aligning lifted trucks.
$145 later after an "off-road"alignment and the popping is coming back, yea I'm frustrated with Ford.

Has Ford said exactly what the issue is yet? Sounds like they replace steering parts for you all, but I have not read on here yet what Ford says is the actual problem with the parts. i have a new 2013 Lariat with about 500 miles and have not had the issue yet, but I do think my truck wanders when going down the highway though, but am not sure if it is me or the truck just yet. I hope I don't start having issues with this as this is exactly why I went from being a die hard GM guy to this Ford truck.

it's the play in the input shaft that makes the noise. i was told by my dealer that ford knows, has seen, and experienced the issue themselves. the problem can be reproduced on the 2011, 2012, and 2013 racks.

my buddy is a tech at a ford dealership in vancouver so I have talked to him and 3 other techs and they all gave me the same answer... the "popping" is a result of the variable electronic steering that is why when they replace the steering rack the problem is not fixed. They told me there is no fix yet but they are working on it. To me its not the end of the world having this "issue" but it would be cool to get fixed nonetheless. I wouldnt go as far as telling someone not to buy an F150 over something like this though.

For how crappy it drives now, I'd take back the popping to have a better steering truck.

Take it back and have them check the alignment.
I have had the steering gear replace 3 time and there have been a total of 4 on my truck. The original and the first replacement the problem was the popping in the steering. The 3rd and 4th make the truck wander, the power assist is inconsistent, it just an over all pain to drive. The truck was very easy and predictable as well being planted and solid in the steering feel. Oh and the popping is starting to come back.
