this is very true. it's because there is stuff moving around in the rack and the input shaft from the rack has play.

if you disconnect the lower steering shaft, you can move the input shaft .25" from one side to the other... in other words - the racks are CRAP.

i'm considering designing and machining a collar to go around the input shaft to keep it from moving from side to side. i'll probably include a delrin bushing, considering delrin's self lubricating properties.

I believe this is the real solution.

I have been considering a new Explorer Sport with the 3.5 ecoboost for my wife and one thing I noticed on the reviews from several articles is how they designed a solid mount to keep the electronic steering from rattling, etc. they need to figure out the same for the F150. It would be interesting to see the design.

it would be great if the ford engineers would get their ***** together and do it without customer intervention.......

I checked too... None have photos. As soon as one hits the dealers lot, I will make a point to take some photos under the hood.

Just wanted to double check again if any of the 2013 models have this issue? I'm sure time will tell. It's possible that no '13 owners will be affected by this until summer.

It will take Ford dealers seeing A LOT more service complaints with the EPAS before any changes will be made. Those of us that have posted our complaints here are a very, very small percentage of 2011/2012/2013 F150 owners. My dealer in San Diego is the largest dealer in the county, and I am the ONLY one that has come in with a steering complaint. I have decided to live with the "clunk" for at least 6 months or until next summer, and then check for any changes to the part number. Be patient. Be safe.
