Wikipedia:
As part of a major focus on fuel economy, the entire engine lineup for the F-150 (excluding the SVT Raptor) was updated for the 2011 model year. Along with two new V8 engines, the F-150 gained a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6, dubbed EcoBoost by Ford. Other modifications include the addition of electric-assisted power steering on most models. This Electronic Power Assisted Steering is an advanced system which increases efficiency and driver control; however, these benefits are outweighed by the fact that this system provides a ride that "pops and clunks" over small imperfections on driving surfaces. Ford TSB notes that some drivers have experienced loss of steering control.

I'd go with the EPAS as causing this problem if every other EPAS system did the same thing, it doesn't. I'd also potentially go with that if the truck had performed this way when test driven...and I drove an S-load of different F-150's before choosing one. If it had driven at 50 miles the way it does at 7.050 I'd have never purchased it in the first place. It feels like the front wheels are going to fall of at any point. It will subside when the weather gets cooler, but I hate to see how bad it's going to be at 19.000 miles when the summer rolls back around. Can't wait.

Thats what I am thinking. This thread will slow WAY down now because parts of the US/Canada are cooling down. Then, next May/June this thread will grow wings again.

Mine has been doing it all summer, my second rack, but I will not bring it in till next summer. Hopefully it's so bad by then, they can figure it out.

I personally think the new rack has not fixed anything. Mine is getting worse by the day. Not to where it once was yet though....

How many miles are on your new rack? I have 2000 miles on my 3rd rack and it still feels the same as when they replaced it. I'll say it again my truck didn't feel this way when I bought it new on Jan. 3rd 2012.

I had a new rack finally installed last week. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. I am not happy! It's better, but I still feel the popping/knocking every single day. I don't know what to do...

Is it a flip of a coin with these new racks? Should I try another or wait until Ford actually finds a solution?

I've been told they know about it and are working on one. however, i know some of you have heard that before...my dealer said the regional tech person (don't know his exact title, and probably shouldn't post his name..) has been keeping him updated and that there are thousands with this problem and ford is working on it. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but one year is fast approaching and i will be out of lemon options.

Working on a fix for the "pops and clunks" ? Or working on avoiding the issue ? because this thread is 1 year & 4 months old and we (truck owners) still have no idea what the problem even is. Ford & their engineers know what the problem is ! they designed, engineerd, fabricated, & built this machine, you bet they know why it pops and clunks. please excuse me for sounding negative, but I can't stand being treated like I'm a stupid fool.
Put it this way, there was nothing wrong or dirty with the money I gave Ford. It was honest hard earned money. In return I recieved a pickup truck that was warranted to be fixed if a covered part was defective or broke. Them telling us it is normal is avoiding the issue. and a breach of contract.
