Do you have another dealer in your area that you could try? It may be worth a shot to see what their response is! Remain persistant with the dealer, maybe that will pay off too!

I would try another dealer also, I actually went to 2 dealers to get my steering rack fixed...the rack itself was 1300 from what the dealer said...good luck!

Guys, quote the symptoms in TSB 11-08-18 to try to convince them to give you a new rack/steering gear. Also referenced here:
https://www.f150forum.com/f38/2011-e...105505/index5/

I had all these symptoms, rattle in steering and sticky left returns. They replaced mine. So far so good. Good luck!

I have been absent from this thread for a while as I have been trying to get this sorted out since the issue came back. Just to keep everyone up to date. Dealer "1" replaced the rack in early September. Issue went away. It came back about two weeks later. Returned to Dealer "1" to have it looked at they took it back in and stated that the leveling kit was causing it to fail. Informed them that there are trucks that are not leveled that have the same issue they would not budge. They informed me that I would need to remove the leveling kit to get any more work covered under warranty. This is even with the Shop Foreman stating that he does not think that the kit is the issue.

Well I did some research and found Dealer "2" They said that the kit is not the issue and have been working with me on it. They have had it in twice. They have looked at a few things and changed the intermediate shafts and bearings between steerning wheel and rack. This did not solve the problem.

They want the truck back next week to dissamble the front end before they order another rack. I guess the only good news about this is that they are doing it under warranty. I will keep you in the loop.

Dealer called today stating that they are on National back order. Said the next batch will come out on the 30th and that warranty repairs are priority.

I just had my steering assembly replace on Tuesday of this past week, took 2 months for the part to come available. Truck seems great, only time will tell.

Well, day two, and so far so good after the repairs. If I get the chance, I will upload a copy of the service bill.

For those of you Ford is telling it's not a problem, get Ford Customer Care involved. The dealers hands are tied after teh first try to fix it, only because if the first fix doesn't work, they have to eat the cost.

Once you call Ford and get them involved, the ball will get rolling. Thats what it took for me.

After all was said and done, the regional manager told me, "Ford has changed vendors because the original vendor had problems with the tollerances in the steering gear."

At the time I got mine fixed, there was approximately 260 ( as I recall, check my earlier posts in this thread ) people in front of me waiting for the re-engineered part to come available. If people are still waiting on national backorder, I would hazzard to guess there is thousands of these racks being replaced.

Also, if you open a case with Ford Customer Care, they will bump you to the front of the line for the part ( well, ahead of the people that don't have an emergency order for it anyway).

One last thing and its very important, stay on top of your dealer once they order it. If it goes past 30 days, they get a warning from Ford. If they don't re-issue the part order it gets kicked out of the system. I found this out the hard way because my dealer's parts dept sucks.
