Default Starting to look at tuners. SCT or 5 Star??

Well, I'm looking to do my first upgrade to the new truck. I'm looking at tuners, and right now I've narrowed down the search between SCT and 5 Star. The main uses for my truck are my daily driver, occasional hauler. When I haul I usually tow an enclosed 22 foot trailer fully loaded at around 7k, give a few extra hundred pounds and a few hundred in the bed. I'm running a 2013 xlt ecoboost screw. I'm wanting lots of power guys!! I noticed with SCT they have an estimated 51horsepower and 100lbs of torque gain. As for 5 Star I hear of mike doing custom tunes for guys on here. I couldn't find any power gains on their website. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks in advance boys!!!

5 star tuning uses the sct tuner, so you will get 5 custom tunes and the sct tunes all in one. I have the 5 star tunes on one ecoboost and love it, I will be getting one for the diesel and one for the new ecoboost also.

Hi.

FYI - 5star uses SCT devices.

If the cost delta between a canned SCT device is aboot the same as a custom-tuned one, it should be clear to anyone which route you should take.

That goes double if you are running an EB.

BTW - 5Star results can be seen here: http://www.5startuning.com/got-a-201...5l-ecoboost-2/

Don't put too much stock into comparing dyno runs - they cannot be with any degree of accuracy - far too many variables for that. Focus on getting tuning that provides SAFE, sustainable power, and gains under the curve. Emphasis is on SAFE, NOT the peak numbers game.

I just started a similar thread in the past week (I have a 5.4 but there were several comments on the Ecoboost.) Might want to read through that as well.

My SCT X4 with 5-star tunes is out for delivery this morning!

I would suggest 5 star custom tunes with the sct device. This weekend I ran into a problem when restoring my truck back to stock and let's just say my truck was a nice looking driveway paperweight. Both mike from 5star and sct both worked with me through out the weekend and I am back up and running.

Will suggest the custom tune by 5 star with sct device any day of the week.

I have the superchips Linq and i'm not a fan of it at all, my speedo is impossible to correct, I changed my tire size to 35 my truck is travelling farther than it should, I change to 34" and same deal, Change back to stock i travel less than the odo reads. not sure whats up here, also my fuel economy gets a little better or seems like it does when its tuned with 35" tires, also takes a long time to switch tunes. I'd like to have a H&S tuner thats changes tunes in seconds!

I'm going to compare using my Garmin montana GPS once winter is over and see for sure.

I'd also look into MPT (More Power Tuning) they offer a deal on the SCT unit and 3 custom tunes for a good price. f150forums for a discount code. I'm running their 87 performance tune at the moment and like it alot. Had a revision done recently and had a quick turn around as well.

Is it best to go through mike or like Stage3 that uses Mikes tunes and offers lifetime tunes for like $449 or something like that. They have a add on their page. I have a 5.0, Thanks.

Another vote for Mike at 5Star. I have the 5.4 and it really woke her up and I have had zero issues. She turns my Raptor rubber with, what seems like, little effort. Customer service is excellent.

The reason you fuel economy gets better is because with the change in tire size, your truck thinks its traveling further than it actually is per tire rotation. Hence your truck thinks its going further per gallon of gas. Not actually changing gas efficiency.

Ive got the opposit problem I havent corrected the tire size so my truck is actually traveling further than it thinks it is... Hence terrible MPG's 12.5 is good for an Ecoboost right?
