Stage 3 Disappointment

I just need to vent a little about this. I ordered a X4 tuner and 5 custom tunes from 5 star. I got the tuner Thursday evening and sent all of the required info over Thursday night to them. Today I received an email saying my trucks ECU software is too old and needs to be updated by a Ford dealership.

My gripe is nowhere in the email Stage 3 sent me, on what was needed for the tune, did it say my ECU strategy needed to be current. I wanted these tunes for this weekend as I have a lot of driving to do. I called stage 3 to complain about this. I called 2 ford dealerships in my area and they wanted $150 to flash my truck. I found this to be unfair since this was not disclosed in the email they sent me. I left work early and drove 1 hour from my house to a dealer who did the flash for free. I called stage 3 to see if they can get my tunes done today. After being on hold for 30 min, they could not help me out and get my tunes out to me today.

I have had very poor customer service from them so far.

Did Stage 3 ever promise to get tunes to you next day from when you ordered them?

How can your ecu software be to old it is a 2013 right ? Still five star should disclose this before the purchase, I was considering doing this as well but just changed my mind, I will have to check out some of the other vendors

Damn! That's no good!

No they did not promise me and that is my gripe. They say within 24 hours the tunes will be ready. If they would of disclosed my ECU had to be current, this would of been taken care of earlier this week and I would of have my tunes today.

Yes it is a 2013 with a build date of April 2013. My point i brought up with them is the tune overrides my stock file so why does it matter which version I have. I would go straight through 5 star. I head good things about the 5 star tunes for towing so that's what lead me this route. I sucks looking at my x4 tuner and not using until Monday.

Edit: They told me I was "6 updates behind Ford latest calibration".

Are you able to even use the can tunes? Do you do your own oil changes /maintenance, as far as have you had it in the dealership for any work and if you did they never mentioned you needing any updates?
I'm just about to pull the trigger on an sct x4 tuner with 5 star tunes, my truck is a 2013 also with a 8/26/2013 build date is why I ask

I could use the Canned tunes if I wanted. But I don't want to upload the canned tunes tonight, flash my truck back to stock Monday, install the new custom tunes on my device and then install those on the truck Monday evening.

I do all of my own maintenance/oil changes. The truck was in the dealership a few months ago for a squeaky lumbar on the driver side seat and I complained about the rear end shutter again. Dealer mentioned no updates and obviously none were installed. I am sure they ran my VIN to see if any required updates were done.

The dealer who helped me out with the ECU re-flash, said it was very rare just to update the ECU for no apparent reason if nothing is wrong.

Good to know, thanks for the info, guess if I plan on still going with the 5 star I'd better be prepared to spend some dough at the service department.. Lame

Maybe call and talk to someone else there....it should not matter if the tuner is for a 2013 and you have a 2013.

Just got an X4 last week from 5*, I have a 2012 and no issues with my ecu. Strange that a 2013 is out of date, and a 2012 is not...
