Default Spray in liner w/ tailgate step?

Does anyone have this, if so did you remove the plastic part of the tailgate and have that sprayed along with the rest of the bed? I'm not sure if I like it not matching (spray liner + plastic tailgate liner).

Most remove the plastic and the pole, and just add the flat piece cover that comes on a standard tailgate.... Then have the entire tailgate sprayed as well! Theres a few threads on it...

I just had the bed sprayed, and the tailgate left alone. Doesn't really bother me.

Just have the bed sprayed. Just left the factory plastic cover on the tail gate.

I had them remove the plastic and pole, spray around the edges, then reassemble. Plastic and Line-X are a little different in gloss and texture but the protection is there.

BTW, careful with the bolts that hold the plastic on. They are in to thin metal and seem to strip real easy. You might want to take this off on your own so you can put them back in gently afterwards.

ended up removing the handle and installing the cover that I got from my local ford dealer. will drop it off for a bed liner tomorrow. As of right now I see no use of the handle, maybe the step. cost was about $80 for part # 9L3Z-9943121-A. I bought some screws from Lowes, cheaper than the ones the dealer would try to sell with the cover.

I didn't even think about this when I dropped mine off. When I picked it up I asked if they removed the cover, sprayed under it then replaced it. Guy said that is the way they do it because water can get under the cover and rust the tailgate

but when you remove the plastic cover, it's an open space. not sure what help it does for them to spray it, then put the cover back on? maybe so the edges won't show the color of the truck?

Mine was done as part of the sale by the Dealer - they did NOT do anything to the tailgate - probably because that would have cost them extra $.

TBH, it looks fine just the way it is.
