Spray-in Bedliner Question
Hey y'all. I'm planning on purchasing a new F150 within the next month, and the one I'm strongly looking at getting has a tailgate step. I want to put in a spray-in bedliner after I purchase it, but I have two questions. 1. When I called to get price quotes from my local Rhino Lining and Line-X, they asked me if I want it under the rails or over the rails; what does this mean? 2. Is it not possible to spray on the bedliner on the tailgate at all because of the tailgate step (this is what the places told me)? If anyone has pictures of their spray-in bedliner on trucks that have a tailgate step please post them. Thanks guys
I prefer under the rails which means it butts up to the edge behind and under the bed side rails.
As far as the step they were correct according to the sprayers I've spoken to. The tailgate step equipped trucks have what looks basically like a drop in bed liner tailgate cover on it. They cannot spray it so the tailgate remains unsprayed.
I asked if it saved me any money since it uses less product and they claimed it should cost me more because removing the heavy tailgate with the step, back up camera, etc in it is a real pain in the butt.
Sooo.. my suggestion (though subjective) is to go UNDER the rail and with the tailgate step they can't line your tailgate.
This is a raptor but you can see the liner on the tailgate because of the step..

I had my 09 Plat bed Line-x'ed I actually had them take off the black plastic cover on the tail gate and line-x the edges so all the bed was black. They even put the DU logo and Texas shape on the liner. I will see if I can get some pictures to post.

I have the tailgate step (and love it) and when I went to the line-x dealer they recommended having it sprayed underneath the plastic covering. This dealer takes it apart and sprays the tailgate and puts the plastic liner part back on top of the line-x. There was no extra cost for the work and I feel better knowing that the tailgate has the extra protection. Furthermore my dealer did the tailgate at no extra cost. As for a dealer saying he should charge you extra because you have extra components on your tailgate... find a new dealer!
I went out this morning a took a few pictures of my liner the one with the DU logo the bottom of the bed is not discolored it was just the chalange of my little camera flash VS the SUN and the SUN won.

I really like the DU logo and texas they did for me

I've just booked my new F150 in for Line-X. I have the tailgate step as well.
They also did my last truck (2007 Ranger), In that case, I didnt like how they removed the plastic tailgate liner and left bolts sticking up after the job was done (yes I could have chased down new bolts, but didnt). When I discussed this with the person at Line-X he still recommended doing the tailgate (even with the step), but said on the F150's they put the plastic liner back on.
I asked why spray the tailgate to just reinstall the liner, and the answer was due to the abrasive rubbing of the plastic on metal. It didnt sound like he was goign to drop the price any further for me, so I agreed. It goes in Wednesday for it.
For the product itself, I cant recommend it enough. When I sold my 3yr old Ranger with the line-x the bed looked as good as the day they sprayed it.
regards, Mike.
