Speedometer Reading 30MPH High (offset)
Hey Guys,
Last night as I was getting on the freeway, the speedometer was reading 85-88 MPH. As alarming as this was, I soon realized (after being passed by a civic) that I clearly was not going that fast. The speedo was reading 25-30 MPH high. I pulled the truck over, stopped, and turned off the ignition. Even stopped and with the key out of the ignition, the speedo was reading 30 MPH. Over the next couple of hours and a few starts and stops, the offset decayed until it finally came back to zero at a stop, and was working fine this morning.
Has anyone encountered this kind of speedometer behaviour before? I have less than 8500 miles on the truck, and really don't need the dealer to start messing with the truck (again).
(of note - a few weeks back i boosted my brother in law's truck - wondering if that might have generated a surge in the electrical that could mess with the circuits...
)
Any insight would be hugely appreciated!

My 2013 XLT's cluster is weird too. I haven't had the speedo do anything but both my temp gauges do weird stuff. On startup the tranny and engine temp ( engine is intermittent) bury themselves to cold and take a minute or two to come up to proper reading. The digital tranny display can read 90 degrees C on a hot startup and the gauge reads below the Cold mark for quite a while until it very slowly creeps up to proper temp. The engine temp does it too. I have 6000 miles on the truck..... but as long as they actually do read I will likely leave it.
What did you find out about this? My 2015 F150 with just over 10000 km started this today, 25 Km over and rests at 25 kph when stopped. Just the dial gauge, when I display my speed in the LCD display it seems to read correctly.
Nothing - I called the dealer and they said there was nothing they could do unless it was happening when I brought it in. And that is despite having a video showing the excessive speed while being passed by EVERYONE on the highway.
Good news is that it hasn't happened again in over 18 months...
Good luck!
