Default Flex fuel

Anyone have experience using flex fuel in their 2010 5.4? I was contemplating giving it a try since it is roughly $1 less per gallon but have heard the drop in mileage doesn't make it worth it.

running e85 is harder on your motor. I have never ran it in mine but the fact that you have to run a tank of normal gas through every once in a while scares me

There have been multiple threads on this topic over the past two years and they all end up the same way.....Similar to threads on "what's the best oil to use in my truck?"

Here is one example:

I have a 2011 5.0L and put a tank full of E85 to try it out. Does seem to offer more power but my gas mileage with mixed driving is around 11.5 mpg compared to 15 mpg. With that loss, it actually cost more in the long run to use E85. But that is because it is only 30 cents cheaper here. I've never seen it a $1 less. An article I read was the price needs to be 25% less or more to make it worth running it. I am going back to 100% gas and sticking with that unless E85 drops a bunch in comparison.

I get a ton more power with it, but it does kill gas milage. Just happy to be keeping my money in the USA. I know it's subsidized when I can get it for $1 cheaper I gotta use it. With my 36 gal tank it doesn't hurt so bad. I'm getting 17 mpg with gas and about 14 with E85.

I've never even seen the stuff here in Florida. I pulled the emblem off my truck so mine probably won't run on it now anyway.

With my Kroger card I can get E85 for around $2 gallon but I didn't want to risk any problems going back and forth.

There aren't many gas stations that I have seen here in Texas that have it. I really only know of one place nearby, but it is only 30 cents less than regular gas.

I have used it multiple times over the past year and have had zero problems with drivability.

A little less on the MPG but more power to the wheels @ 105 octane. On average about 35-45 cents a gallon difference, depending on the station and the price of reg. gas.

It is nice to be able to have the flexibility of this option if gas is not available.
