If you don't mind, what did you get to replace the speakers and how was the result ?

I am a musician and like my music to sound good and I have to say that the sound in my 2013 FX4 ECO ( SONY / NAV ) kinda blows.
The sound in my wife's 2011 Explorer Limited ( Sony/NAV ) puts mine to shame, even at low volume levels.
I "NEED" to rectify this.

I've had 2 in the front passenger door replaced, 2 in the drivers rear door. Now the front drives is starting to pop. The dealer implied that water gets inside the door. They said they've replaced quite a few. The window seal don't seem to work well. When I go through the car wash it sounds like water running through the door.

I think the paper cones on the speakers eventually become brittle and sound crappy. The best system I ever had was a Dynaudio system in a Volvo.

I've seen some audio options in some vehicles that include a 19 or 21 speaker setup....incredible.

That Volvo/dynaudio stuff was legit

And those 19 and 21 speaker systems get blown away by a 5 to 7 speaker system with a good processor and competent installer/tuner

I replaced the stock door speakers with Kickers. I don't have the Sony/Nav so I don't know if the Kickers are as good as your stock speakers?? But they are better than my stock speakers.

I used fosgate p1683's front and back.. but kickers and many others are all good quality that will surpass anything ford uses! Being a musician can have its issues as you are more in tune with sound... crossovers, amps, subs and so on along with a different approach to setup. The best I believe you will find is giving up the fader and going with a amp with subs in the rear,, mids in the doors and tweeters in the pillar and a good quality crossover controller or high wattage wired in crossover.

Well, I went ahead and installed the KICKER SOUNDGATE 10" sub with amp to my SONY/NAV and what a world of difference !

Not only is the bass WAY deeper ... but all the other speakers sound better as well as the volume louder.

Before the install, I had to turn the volume just about MAX to get deep bass tones now, I only go 1/2 way and the bass thumps !

all genres sound better... Rock, Hip-Hop, Country.. you name it ..

Worth the upgrade.

I got it brand new on ebay for $575 shipped and listed my stock Sony Sub for $200

If you don't plan on amping up your stock system them Kicker 6x8 speakers are probably your best bet. I installed them in my 2013 regular cab STX and it makes a very noticable difference. The stock speakers sound muddy all the way around.

They say right on the box that they are made to be Factory Upgrade speakers. I started out just replacing the fronts. When I went back to buy a second pair for the rear the guy at Best Buy said of all the different brands of speakers they swap out that these sound the best on a stock powered stereo. He said the other brands usually want more power to drive them to the same volume level.

I am not saying they are the best sounding or best speaker out there. I am saying they are one of the best for the stock stereo that does not have an aftermarket amp.

Also, when replacing the stock speakers make sure you get the polarity right or they will sound like crap and have no Bass. On my truck the + was on the side of the connector disconnect tab. Don't trust the premade connectors to have the polarity right. I have read several times that some people found that theirs were reversed. On mine I cut the connector off and soldered the wires together with heat shrink to cover the connection.

Do you know what model number speakers you used? Were they they KS68?

Thanks!
