What are people's favorite speakers in the 5x7 size?

Well that depends on your ears! So many choices out there. since you have a 2012 I take it you need components? If so, you can't go wrong with infinity kappa.

^^ What he said. Infinity Kappas are great. I am a fan of anything from Infinity. Can't go wrong at any price range from them.

But there are many good speakers out there. I've had mid-priced Pioneers that sounded very good. The Cerwin Vegas are punchy with good bass, but the upper freqs are so-so.

Only thing that sucks is a lot of high end companies don't make 5x7 components. You could get a really nice set of speakers if you switch to 6.5."

Ditto Infinity Kappas, I did the 5x7 front and rear. I was going to do 6.5 components but no plan to amp them anytime soon so I went with a better sensitivity rating. The ones I got have built in cross over and adjustable tweeter with plus or minus db settings. They sound night and day better, I run them off a Kenwood DDX 616.

I replaced my speakers with 6x8 Kenwood 3-ways. They sound 10 times better than stock. I have non sync radio, and my door speakers sound better than my friend's stock Sony sync radio.

I think any aftermarket speaker will sound better than the stock speakers. I have the Sony Nav with premium sound pkg and upgraded to Rockford Fosgate 1682 ($100/2 pr) and it sounds way better than stock.

You might want to look at filling the sub box with polyfil too.
