Default spark plug change how to

I'm looking for spark plug install instructions for 2013 5.0L. Has anyone done a write up or video?

After reading the guide, I'm curious. How long does it take to change out the 8 plugs on the 5.0L? I've changed my 3.5L plugs out twice, it is about 45-60 minutes depending on how slow I'm moving. how hard are the back two plugs to access with big hands?

Oh I have no clue i have an eco as well. I just looked this up for him real quick.

Looks pretty spacious in the pictures atleast

I have rather large hands and just changed my plugs. You have plenty of room to work with, the most irritating part is reaching all the way back there and wrestling with the red locking tabs, and disconnecting the electrical connections on the cops. The last two plugs make you get a little creative with your extensions as the firewall is in the way, but overall not bad to change the plugs like some engines I've done.

Despite being careful I still managed to break off one of the red locking tabs. It shouldn't/doesn't hurt anything, but my OCD is triggered every time I see my engine. Coil covers are a must in the future for me. It should only take a little more than an hour if your taking your time. If you know what your doing and in a rush I don't see why they couldn't be changed in 30 minutes.

What my plugs looked liked after 100k miles. A waste of money to change before then unless your having spark-specific issues.

+1 I changed my plugs on my ecoboost at 45000 so I could instal the "improved plugs" and check on the gaps.

Well, it had the "improved" plugs and gapped right. I still changed them had them out might as well ready for the next 100K.

Did you use anti-seize on yours?

They are pretty simple to change. I changed mine last week at 60,000 miles just because. As stated the red locking tabs can be a pain, but a pocket screw driver makes it easier to release. I had less than an hour from start to finish and that's checking old plug gaps and new plug gaps. The old plugs were fine, I had one that was over plug gap spec, but nothing insane.

i did mine at about 32k. i put in the ecoboot plugs are they were 1step colder and eventfully im gonna procharge it. takes about and hour to do. the clips on the COP are a bitch though.

Passenger and driver rear plugs are rough, passenger rear being the worst.


Make sure you use a rubber-inserted 5/8" socket. A wobble or two and a 6" extension are pretty much all you need. It's not tough. As others said, the red release on the coil pack can be a little tough if they have any sort of dirt in them. I only checked mine, and at roughly 50K, the plugs were in great shape.
