SoundScreen windshield and radar detector
My 2013 XLT has the SoundScreen windshield and I recently purchased a Escort Max radar detector. Love the concept especially the gps lockout of false alerts. I've noticed that the sensitivity is terrible. With Highway mode and a continuous on source I'd get a half mile at most, off axis even worse. Seems after passing a cruiser my signal would get stronger from the rear, perhaps my imagination. Curious to see other's experiences - trying to decide if it's the vehicle or if I got a dud from Escort. thanks

I've got it on center about 3 inches above the windshield wipers, so I'm stumped. I've searched around and have found no reports of SoundScreen problems, so I'm betting it's the Max. It's too bad, I want to like it. Perhaps it's time to consider a V1 or Redline.

Ive got the 8500 mounted near the top of the windshield. I get more than a mile at times, even more when highway is straight.

I know the old purple/orange looking windshields would reduce radar sensitivity (i.e. range of detection), but are you saying the Soundscreen does the same? What exactly is in the laminate (I thought it was just thicker)?

While the only other thing I can find on the subject.... is a post by you on an Escort Forum, I would think the Sound screen would not be the cause given that sound waves and EM radio waves are different things and a thicker polymer layer would not cause that level of degradation.
However as a caveat I will add that I studied history in college not sound or radio waves.
Will also say you may extend your potential max range detection by mounting it higher. Allows for it to 'see' over vehicles to your front as well as the slight time difference in the high mount cresting a hill/Intervisibility Line before the larger chassis of the truck.

The higher you mount it is it good for KA Band radar.... for laser you want it as low as possible because the beam is only like 3 feet wide and they tend to shoot your front license plate area which will not register on the detector if you have it mounted high up on the windscreen
Secondly I had an issue a few months into owning my 9500 and had to send it in for warranty. there was an issue with the sensor and it needed to be recalibrated.. Only took about a week return trip for them to fix it..been good ever since
