It's is unfortunate how peoples morals have all but just disappeared. It would be nice to see dateline do some kind of stakeout to catch people doing this stuff. A few events over the last few days have led me to look into a 4 channel hi def security system with dvr for the vehicle that records whenever the vehicle is shut off, solely for incidents like this.

I would think with over $1000 in damage the police would get involved and look for the people who did it. If it was done with a cart, it had to be intentional, don't know what felony damage to property $ amount is in your area, but would think over $1000 would do it. If the damage was done with a car then it becomes a hit and run, people probably don't have insurance. But I would think the police would fill out a report, which will be needed for your insurance claim, and ask to see the video footage and pursue to find the people at fault. No matter what contact the police and file a report!

Good luck and hope it works out in your favor! I hope they catch the people involved and charge them to the fullest extent of the law!

They let me check out the video feeds and it was a white SUV parked next me. No carts in the area at the time and there is white paint on my truck.

The cameras do not allow him to zoom in, so I could not get any other info.
I'll just take the wifes car from now on.

Edit: my wife also works in accounting for Walmart. That's probably why they let me see the video.

Yeah, I said I'd rather pay out of pocket instead of involving the insurance.

Police said they can't do anything for me , it happened on private property. I asked him what I should do and he said there is really nothing I can do. He also said that's the bad part about things like this happening.

If I had seen it happen and got plate numbers and contacted them right away. They could have done something.

Same thing I was told 2 months ago when I called the sheriff department about someone stealing rims off of new and used trucks.

They said they can't do anything about it unless I actually saw the crime happen or the owners of the trucks call.

id have my wife be on the look out for that SUV. Did you get to see the occupants of the vehicle and how many there were? Were there kids? Note the time, maybe they frequent the store often and are on a schedule, especially if they have kids who go to school. If it was during the week, in the afternoon, could be a stay at home parent going grocery shopping
See my avitar? That was taken at a local supermarket. Notice there are no cars around. Reason, I park so far away. Look, you cant even see cars in the pic. Its a tough lesson to learn

A crease type dent like that can easily be pulled out with basic shop tools man.. go somewhere that's willing to work out the dent.. I know a few paint less dent removal guys around my way that are skilled enough to work that out.. and they do it on driveways. Keep shopping around!

It's really a civil issue and not a police issue. Happened on private property and can't prove criminal intent on damaging the vehicle. They may take a curtesy report but they will most likely tell you to let your insurance handle it.
