someone drilled a hole in my gas tank
Some loser decided he wanted to drill a hole in my gas tank, and steal my 15 dollars of gas. Friggin truck only has 1200 miles on it too. Called the insurance and submitted a vandalism claim, and they are going to replace the whole gas tank which is costing 850 bucks, and I have a 500 deductible.
Just wondering if there is anything that you can do to stop people from doing that? Maybe welding something below the gas tank?
Also the hole was about a 1/4" in diameter. You think in the future if that was to happen again that I could just fix it myself with something like jb weld? Or would that be unsafe. Thanks.

Dodge+Ford = always ready
only thing i can think of is a metal plate under your gas tank like a heavy duty skid plate. but thats no guarantee, maybe a good security system? or setup a camera and park your truck infront of it to catch the people doing it, if the police catch them then they gotta pay and you wont be out of pocket.

For $350 I would save the insurance claim for something more substantial. Around here you get 2-3 insurance claims and they either cut you off or jack your rates through the roof. Once you've been cut off or jacked up good luck getting insurance from anyone else. You'll be concidered a high risk. Small claims show that you will file for anything. The insurance companies dont want high risk clients. Like everyone else they like taking money in and not paying out. Once you get the high rates you'll spend a lot more than $350.
I am sure you could get a used tank from a write off and put it in yourself spend less than the $500 deductible.

I like that Idea.
Also I don't think any kind of skid plate will really help. Even 1/4" steel only takes a minute or so to drill through with a good bit. Maybe if you used stainless, but that's a pain to work with.

Beer Gut Extraordinaire
Could be worse, could be someone pouring a pound of sugar into your tank like in my old Silverado. At least you can rest knowing you gave someone some gas, whereas someone was just being an annoying waste of skin ****ing c**t with mine
Best of luck.
