Gents- This is the correct fix once and for all: All you need is two strips along the gasket leaving a one or two inch gap on the bottom of the rear third brake light for excess moisture/breathability.

My dad just found out he is out of warranty by 25 days and the dealership will not repair his water leak or interior damage. makes me want to buy a new rear light just to avoid the problem

I just had mine in for service this morning and I told them my 3rd brake light had been leaking. They ordered me the complete brake light assembly no questions asked.I saw the price of 107 bucks on the paperwork and they said it would be no charge to me.I just hope it fixes the leaking.

How to you use the RTV on it? Do you put it on the actual gasket material of the light? Do you let it cure before reinstalling?
Reason I ask is that if you have to remove the light, it's very difficult to remove cured silicone. I can imagine you'd have the gasket material stuck to the silicone and the silicone stuck to the paint.

I applied the RTV on either side of the gasket and filled the screw holes. Of course there was excess that squeezed out, but cleaned up easliy with a couple wet paper towels.

well my pop bitched and moaned enough to his dealer. Even with his warranty expired they are putting in a new 3rd brake light, replacing the head liner an replacing all the speaker grills for free.

Update
Took my truck to a different dealer and they listened to me! After having the truck almost a week they found the back window was bad and put a new one in! I'll run it through a car wash in a couple days to make sure but they found the leak right where I thought it was!
