OK off to google images to see if I can answer my own questions.

Please don't use a hose clamp . A pair of tin snips will get it right off. Use the Masterlock, it cost $20 and worry free .

Damn!! Had that discussion on here last week.... Someone needs to start watching the news.... Tailgates are easy to steal and pretty damn expensive... If he got you at work then as soon as you get another tailgate he'll get you again...

Had a neighbors rock head son steal the center caps off of my Escalade... Those things are $70 a piece.. I'd replace the ones he was able to steal and no less than a week he'd get me again.... I bought the $10 dollar knock-offs on Ebay... He stole them.... haven't seen him since... This was last year..I'm guessing someone beat the crap out of him for selling fake center caps... lol

almost 2 years on mine and Zero rubbing issues. It comes with a padded velco liner you can put on the lock. They just didn't show it on the video for timing purposes.

My tailgate comes off once maybe in the five to seven years I own the vehicle. With my luck I would put the key somewhere and would be unable to find it which then equals screwed.
I use the hose clamp method and knock on wood, no theft in thirty years.

Maybe just make a neoprene sock for the lock, no rattle, no paint damage. Cut out some neoprene from a trashed surfing wetsuit (thinner than diving), so and glue the edge/end, lock sock! Now I just have to make sure I cut up the right wetsuit and not my son's new one. lol

Not really worthy of discussion, but I'm bored. Pros and cons of jimmijammer vs master lock?

Yep comes with some velcro keeps it in place and no rubbing.

Also another good idea.

As for losing keys. I made 2 extras. besides 2 comes with.

So 1 key on my normal keychain
1 key on my spare truck key
1 kept in my truck hidden away.
1 extra at home as super backup

I do the same with my locking hitch pin and will do same once i get my undercover swing case here.

I bought the Masterlock because of this thread. Thanks for sharing - and for allowing others to learn from your tough break.

Also bought the tailgate piston to aid in the tailgate not slamming open. I have the camera and step tailgate, which is heavy!
