So I tuned my eco boost and 2 weeks later blew my engine
#21
I'm defentally going to leave it stock except my intake and exhaust. At least until I have put on around 3,000 Kms. That's when they want it back to do another oil change on it.
I didn't mention that when it got towed in they said they were really busy and would be bit until they had time to look at it. So I told them no big rush at all when ever you get the time to do it is fine with me. I was extremely nervous for a long time that it wouldn't be covered. The service advisor told me the mechanic that would be working on it is under a huge amount of stress because of the last Job he did. So I went out and bought the service advisor and the mechanic a 20$ Tim Horton card (kinda like your dunkin donuts). I really think my attuide helped with everything. If I would have gone in there being an *** I'm sure they wouldn't have been so nice.

I can tell you without question had that been GM you'd be buying a new motor from your own pocket! The got burned pretty bad on folks blowing up their Duramax motors.. KA BOOM. They finally figured out they were being tuned for 600+ hp and drag racing. How that's the mfg problem I never understood. More like stealing if you ask me … but that's me!
If ya can't afford to take the hit then leave it alone is a good policy to avoid problems down the road……………..

I dont think a canned tune blew his engine. Soemthing was already going I am sure. But wondering what actually went on the engine?

I never hid the fact I had a tune. They never asked me once that If I had one. If they would have asked, I don't know what I would say. It was a connecting rod pin that failed and put a hole in both sides of the block.

He simply ran into a very nice dealer that helped him avoid 15 to 20k…. that's an extremely nice dealer.
Obviously his truck to do as he sees fit with addition tunes but it makes almost ZERO sense trying it again! Every time he hears or sees anything with this motor his heart is going to be in his throat remembering what happened before…

Besides, the tune wasn't proven to be the cause, there's a million other things that could have been the cause.

The simple fact it was tuned would be all the proof any mfg would need to totally blow off any warranty claim. How would you prove it DID NOT cause the failure? Connecting rod let go according to the OP… and you don't think additional boost had any affect? Just saying……… He simply ran into a very nice dealer that helped him avoid 15 to 20k…. that's an extremely nice dealer. The dealership had direct knowledge it had been tuned but choose to not bring that to the attention of Ford!!
I'd be very thankful for that…….. not all dealers are bad guys imo.

Yes. That's pretty much how I stand. Maybe I'll sell it and get some amp power steps. The dealer told me it was 8,000 for the motor and 2,000 for labour. I didn't even buy the truck their. Nor have had any oil changes done there. I had 6 free oil changes where I purchased it. However my wife goes there all the time and was always telling me how awesome and nice they are there. So that's where I brought it and I was very happy with the out come. Some other people in town also said maybe since they are an SVT dealer they might be used to that kinda stuff.
BTW the way… have the Amp power steps on my 2012 and totally love em!!
