Dropped off my truck (2013 3.5EB with 75k) on Monday morning to have the new tires mounted, balanced, an alignment done and an oil change.
Got a call this morning from the dealership. They found gas and antifreeze in the oil, they examined the engine and found a crack in one of the cylinders! well $#%$#@!!!
Dealership is contacting Ford ESP today to get approval to proceed with a swap, they warned me that while they believe the engine and labor will be covered, some misc stuff might not be, so to expect a quote slightly larger than the $100 deductible!

That got me asking a couple of questions that the service rep was not willing to answer until he talks to Ford. I figured this might be the best place to ask them, to A. get sarcastic and wise ***** answers to make me laugh, B. get positive answers that will make me smile, or C. get real depressing answers that will make me cry and say bye bye to my HID and SYNC 3 fund and then some!

Anyone had an engine swapped under a Ford Premium Care ESP?
Any idea what to expect as far as push-back from Ford?
Any idea on cost, as in what will not be covered by the ESP?
And how long should I expect this to take?

How did they find the crack? They pulled the plugs and scoped the inside of cylinder? So the engine block is cracked?

I guess the good news is if they drop a crate motor into it you get another full 3 year warranty.

Probably saw milky oil during the oil change and investigated further. Antifreeze in oil can really kill bearings.

I don't see why you would have to pay more than the $100 deductible.

Yeah, if they come back with anything above deductible, it's probably a lie.
Ford will likely be easier to work with than the dealer.
Time will depend on availability more than anything else. Plus a few days for the work.

I had the engine in my truck replaced under a Ford extended warranty. Got a new Ford reman engine and paid nothing over deductible.

I had mine done this year on my 2012, under the Ford extended warranty plan. I had the premium, $0 deductible. The dealer was very good to work with and the Ford rep was also very good to talk to.
Every nut and bolt was covered. Even things they found that really had nothing to do with the actual engine was swapped if it looked worn. Things like hoses, straps, rubber air deflectors in front of radiator, etc. With the premium, you also get a loaner vehicle regardless of how long this takes.

Now the crappy part. Delivery on long block engine was 8 weeks.......total time was 6+ months.
First engine only lasted a couple weeks. Heads not torqued properly at assembly time, leaked coolant and hydrolocked.
Second replacement was not allowed to leave the dealership. Bad internal knocking right from the initial start.
Third replacement seemed to work out ok.
This was not the dealership's fault, but the shops that supply the Ford replacement long blocks. Mine was a 5.0, hope 3.5's are built somewhere else.

So to answer your question, if you have extended ESP, there should be no cost except your deductible. Just cross your fingers, toes, and what ever else you can, that it works on the first go around.
Comments on dealer push back, well mine bent over back wards to make things right and did what ever they could to keep me happy.
One of the reasons I'm still driving a Ford.

The only thing extra that would not be covered that I can think of is belts and hoses and honestly at your mileage they need to be changed anyway, bad part is the extra cost of those parts, good part is there should be no extra labor as it all has to come off anyway to do the engine swap.

Might have some vacuum lines that probably wouldn't be a bad idea to refresh as well. I don't see a lot of above warranty cost at all.

I can only go by my experience doing this type of job when I worked at the dealer and that was some time ago. Belts and hoses are better made these days but at the current mileage it would be foolish to reuse them.

Got a Call back from the Dealer, everything will be covered for the $100 deductible, YAY!!!!
They are getting me a 2018 F150 as a loaner, I am suspicious that this might be a sales ploy

They also took the truck for a test drive after they installed the new tires (before the oil change) and found a couple of other issues that they will be taking care of while the truck is in, for the same $100 deductible so that's a plus, I think!!
The two items are a transfer case that is not disengaging, and a tie rod, that are both being replaced.

All I can say is that I sure am glad I made the decision to get the ESP, and that Ford is not as difficult as Dodge and GM to work with on warranty/ESP issues. Thank you all for making me feel better while I waited.

I wondered about that as well,and asked. The service adviser said that they will be covered under the warranty only if too worn to reuse or if damaged during removal.
Might call him back tomorrow and see how much it will be to swap them out while they are at it. I am thinking around $200 in parts, might not be too bad of a deal, that way I don't have to do it in a couple of years Thanks for the tip.
