I was mulling the idea of new winters for my 09 Lariat Super Crew... as apposed to create another similar thread maybe I can ask in this thread>>>>????

What is the general consensus - would I find a huge enough difference between Nokian Hakka R2's and BFG T/A ko ? BFG are winter rated but not a true winter tire... I was really just wondering if on a heavy 4X4 vehicle a dedicated winter tire would be worth maintaining two sets of tires...I live in Eastern Ontario where we get some good dumpings -- thanks

dedicated winter tires are a lot softer rubber of course, so if you don't mind them wearing out a lot faster and have no need for studs in the winter, run winters all year

Unless it's a actual snow tire....don't expect the same performance as a tire that 'can' handle snow, like the bfg.

I run two sets myself.

Bingo... great tire if you want to look cool....absolutely useless in any real snow or mud. If you can't make it with half bald x brand all terrains
.. duracraps won't get you any further. But almost as noisey as any m/t once you get some miles on them especially. I have had Nokian snow tires, Blizzaks as well as goodyears and had excellent luck with either.

I've always had good luck w/BFG KO's in the winter when living in Central Oregon. However, If I was leaning towards a more capable snow tire but w/All Terrain tread plus the ability to handle dry roads w/o wasting away quickly... I'd choose this Nokian LT Tire for a 17",18",20" rim:

Since Nokian invented the snow tire.. I figure it should be fairly decent?

I'm up in the air as to Hakka R2 (rated #1 non studded) or BFG AT ko which are apparently rated as a winter tire (mountain and snowflake) symbol. I'm guessing since Hakka's rated higher than BFG I guess they must be better for winter???? My only question is will the difference be negligible and not worth buying winters then summers in the spring as I'll need both. I ran Blizzak last winter but kept them throughout the summer because they wouldn't last another winter.....

Ran Blizzaks in the worst Calgary winter in memory and they performed fantastic on my F150. Blizzaks on our Audi wagon are going into their 4th season and performance is starting to wane a bit.
