These are fantastic and they have two I would consider.. if you need a potty, then go with this...

If no potty is necessary and you want to tow a boat, try this, at 480 lbs.. it's the lightest I can find that does what I want...

F150 and Pop-up campers
My wife and I have a '10 Raptor 6.2L (ProCharged) with the 5.5' box. We've been backpackers/campers all our lives and now want to do some off-road truck camping (SLOW off-roading ).
Four Wheel pop-up campers (Woodland, CA) has a short (68") slide-in model called the Raven. You can have an in-house portapotti and outdoor shower as options. Dry weight is a little over 800#, so suspension mods are a must with the Raptor that already rides like an old Lincoln on pavement (prob AAL, RAS, maybe a rear sway bar).
The heaviest GVWR on any F150 with the 6.2L engine is 7700# (the Raptor weighs just over 6,000#) - so keeping the pop-up camper's weight down is mandatory. The goal is to have the heavier on-board needs like the water tank and batteries mounted ahead of the rear axle as COG will be a little behind the rear axle, and keep the options as light as possible (just like backpacking).

you're right about that. for the money, one gets way more with a travel trailer, but campers are cool in their own way.

a couple days ago i saw a late model XLT with a 6.5 box carrying a "slumber queen adventurer". he was parked at the home depot so i snuck up to take a look. the tag said that it weighed about 1250 pounds. the truck bed was not sagging at all so i checked to see if he had helper springs or airbags and he did not. this thing was sitting quite nicely on what appeared to be a stock XLT bed. i was impressed and now want one.
edit: the model that i saw does not appear to be on their website so perhaps it's discontinued.
