Probably not a lot different than using a slide in camper.

I see these all over Minnesota tons of hardcore snowmobile riders up here. Marathon is the best in my opinion, the quality is amazing of these things. Easily load 2 sleds up and pull a trailer.

Default Sled deck

I had one on my 2006 dodge ram quad cab 4x4 2500, with a 6 1/2 foot box.
Now remember this was on a 3/4 ton.....I would never have tried it with a 1/2 ton pick up.
It's just not a good plan....pretty sure you'd be over the weight limit...also gotta remeber about the tires. You need really strong side wall or it'll feel like it's going to flip over.
Pretty sure the D.O.T. would pull you over and say it's over loaded....Now I dont know the exact weight but in my opinion it's not a good plan.
Deck weight about 400lbs, and each sled with full fuel tank is 600lbs for sure...then add snow and ice plus gear and people= over the limit.

Very popular out west in the mountains. See them everywhere. I heard that the ministry was clamping down on the overloaded trucks. Essentially limiting them to 3/4 tons and above. They are a sweet setup though. I had always trailered my ATV but thought one of those would save sometime and effort and making parking at the trail head easier.

Would this work? Or do you need something removable?

So true;
I almost had to leave my atv behind at a safety blitz, they said it was too heavy for the bed of my Dakota; thank god I had an empty atv gas tank , showed the manuals for both truck and atv, just under the max bed load with atv dry weight by 20lbs. The inspector still wanted the atv off; but got trumped by the OPP; I showed them my get out of jail free card.. The OPP officer stated I was legal and I could leave with the atv. I find it easier now to just use a trailer except when parking is limited.

FX4 Boston: its your decision, they do look cool and may have some great practical applications on top of using a sled deck for sleds. You still have the space underneath. I just think 2 sleds up there on top of a short box 1/2 ton Ford F150 is dangerous. For 1 sled or atv, it could work well for you.

Sled decks weigh 310 lbs. A new Polaris RMK 800 is about 450 lbs dry. The payload rating on my truck is 1200 lbs (supercrew 4x4 6.5' bed). So adding this up is about 1200 lbs. Plus you are going to be carrying another person or two, tools, fuel, etc. So you would be over the rating. For sled decks, you really need a 3/4 ton or bigger. You're better off getting a trailer. Or else carry one sled in the back w/o a sled deck.

Hauled my sled in the back of the truck from the dealership to the house yesterday (getting repaired). Dealer put it in with a fork lift, strapped it in, and hauled it 55 miles home. I have a place that I can back in a ditch and get my tailgail level with the ground. I have a 5 1/2' bed and didn't have any problems (not exactly sure of the length of the sled, but I will check). I know one thing, they are heavy! I climbed a couple pretty good grades, and I could tell it was back there!

The guy from Fisher's ATV World had one of these overbedrail racks on his truck until he bought his new PSD and a trailer, seemed ok from watching on TV. I used to put a single sled in my 5 1/2 ft bed with no problems even though it stuck out past the tailgate a few feet. Just make sure you tie it in good.

Default Success

So I picked up my sled Friday and began the trek. We grabbed the easiest option (5'x9") U-haul....definitely looked Redneck hillbilly style, but we were in New Hampshire so we fit in well.

I found mine in the back strapped was great. Having the second sled in the trailer I could feel it, but couldnt have asked for a better pull. The 3.73 w/5.4l inpressed me to the point I will probably grab a 4 place trailer I have an opportunity getting for low price.

Thanks for all the feedback and opinions
