Should Ford have a F150 EcoDiesel?
Should or Is Ford going to come out with a diesel engine for the F150?
Dodge has their ecodiesel with 8spd trans, why not Ford.
I think it will be a great seller.

Don't want one. I've evaluated the Ecodiesel and a gas engine in a half-ton is a much more viable option as far as maintenance costs. Ford's got something good with the Ecoboost and it will prove to be much better selling than the Ecodiesel. The Ecodiesel is a niche engine.

No, the diesels 9.0 sec 0-60 mph is a turd of an engine in the Ram. Couple that with weak tow ratings. Ford is doing just fine with the EB. Not to mention the added cost of fuel and maintenance for diesels. The EB rips it a new bunghole in performance (100 more hp and same torque), less mark-up, can get fuel anywhere. Don't even go there saying the diesel will resale for more... well yeah, it cost an additional 3k or more to buy. The only thing the diesel may have is a little MPG gain. Remember, it will take you longer to merge and pass in their diesel.

As someone that was saying they should do a small diesel before, I recant and say they should not. The upcharge to the diesel is not gonna pay for itself anytime soon for most of us (my eco will likely never cover the ~700 extra I paid but Ill pay that for the torque curve, no way would I pay 3k+), not to mention the typically more expensive maintenance. At this point I think the ecoboost and 6.2 can pull as big of a trailer as the F150 has any business carrying. If you wanna pull more weight or pull a heavy trailer a lot you should be looking at a bigger truck imho

I have no plans to ever sell my truck until my unborn kid goes to college but if Ford came out with a decent HP and TQ diesel in a F150 i would trade it in that day!

I think that ford got it right with the ecoboost, if ford could develop a diesel engine that could match or better the ecoboost's stats then that'd be great, but i don't see that happening now. I think it'll compete with these diesel half tons coming out just fine

The EcoBoost was Ford's answer to those that were interested in seeing how a 1/2 ton truck would do with a diesel. They did the research and looked into having a small diesel put in the F-150 and decided that the EcoBoost would be a better fit and more appealing to more owners throughout North America.
They have proven to be correct since 2011 with it being the highest selling motor in the F-150 lineup. The number of people interested in a 1/2 ton diesel is so small, it isn't worth it.
Think about it. Average joe comes to average Ford dealer and talks to average salesman. Average joe isn't really sure what he wants. Salesman wants to make his money to he mentions having a diesel as an option. Average joe doesn't care for a diesel.
Same situation but tell average joe that there is a twin turbo V6 option that is quiet as can be, gets equal or better gas mileage to the V8 options, tows more, and makes more power? Average joe buys truck.
I realize these are general statements, but if you think about it from a marketing perspective and how to appeal to the masses instead of a VERY small market, I think Ford did a much better job with the EB as opposed to a small diesel.
