Shift to Neutral from Drive - why is it locked?
Something that puzzles me about my new F150 is why Ford would design it so you must push the shift lock lever to move from D to N? I can't imagine any reason for this. They allow you to go from N to D without pushing the lever.
IMO, you should always be able to slap the transmission into Neutral with no obstructions. All my past vehicles with auto transmissions allowed you to go between D and N and back without interference. The problem I see is that you could accidentally shift into Reverse or Park when putting it into Neutral.
Just curious what others think.

Hmmm... interesting. But, I don't see how this shift lock from D to N makes things any safer. Accidentally shifting into neutral has never happened to me, but it shouldn't be a problem anyways since we have rev limiters now. I think its safer to be able to slap the transmission in neutral if required.
