I guess I should follow up on my post. The service advance trac warning went off the next morning and I towed the boat 220 miles home no issue. Warning stayed off for a few days until I went to BACK UP into my driveway. I shifted into reverse and there was a slight clunk and the warning returned. Parked the truck for the night. Next morning warning came on but quickly went out as I pulled forward out of the driveway. Common theme here seems to be reverse. Once with a boat on the back and the grade of a launch ramp and backing into my driveway where I probably did not allow the truck to completely stop before I pulled it out of drive and into reverse. I'm kind of blaming myself here a bit.

I took mine to the dealer Wednesday and they confirmed the rack needs to be replaced. Went to drive it home from the dealer and the warnings went away and power steering came back. Got close to home and went to turn off the highway, while stopped in the turning lane. I turned the wheels to the left and the steering wheel jerk ed back to the right and lost power steering again and both advanctrac and downhill assist warning lights came back on. Went to cross the highway and the right front brake engaged. As soon as I let off the gas it disengaged and did this several times. I turned off the advanctrac and power steering came back, but still had both warnings. Went about 3 miles and stopped at a stop sign and power steering quit again.

Ford wanted $1800 to replace it. $1129 for the rack itself and the rest labor. I did some looking and found a motorcraft for $730 on rockauto.com. Should be here today, ford couldn't get it till next Wednesday. I'll get the old one off today and try to determine what the cause may be.

I have had two blips so far. Nothing has affected my steering yet. So I wonder if I'm going there too. I do have an extended warranty through my Credit Union in my back pocket. Good Luck

Got it replaced And the old one was full of water. Checked the bellows on the inner tie rod ends and both were torn. May check yours and there is an inspection plate on the back. Pull it off and check for moisture.
