Default Securing tailgate when it wont close

Hey guys, I am just looking for some ideas on how to secure the tailgate from bouncing around when I haul something that prevents me closing it.

I am hauling a projection tv for a friend and it just fits in the box, but the tailgate won't close, I need another 1/2 inch, that I just can't get.

I took it on a short haul today and the tailgate was bouncing a lot. We have a longer trip tomorrow with it and need some ideas on how to secure this thing.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the idea. Was thinking of tying something to the handle of the step-bar then down to the bumper. Not too sure how that'll work yet

If you can't figure out how to secure the Tgait take it off until your haul is done.

What about cutting a piece of plywood as long as the bed and the open gate. You could put the load on top of the wood. It would hold the gate down and protect the bed.

Or you could get a bed extender.

Ya all good ideas, just not feasible to take off tailgate or carry around wood. Looks like I'll be strapping it down somehow. Thanks all!

Until you find a way that works for you, I recommend a hose clamp over the pass. side hinge. These tailgates can come off really easy if you hit just the right bump and damage the paint. A little bit of theft protection as well.
