Default SCT 5.4 questions

I wasnt planning on tuning my truck but a buddy of mine is offering me a sct and a kn cai for peanuts practically bc he traded his 2010 in for a 12 Eco. I have a few questions. He said it's currently "married" to his truck and that it comes with 5 tunes and has only used one. Do I have to send it to sct to get reflashed? how complicated is the install? What should I expect as far as performance? Also, is there any negative effects on the tranny or motor? I have a 2010 lariat screw 4x4 5.4 3.73 magnaflow SI/DO and would also have kn CAI. Any info would be appreciated bc I have little knowledge on these

as soon as he return his to stock it should be "divorced" and you will be able to utilize it.
how good of a friend is he install it before you pay him, see if it works. I tried mine before I bought it and it worked no problem it is a SCT flashpaq red in color.

hope that helped

I would get it, but make sure he "divorces" the old truck before you take it because otherwise you may have to pay someone to unlock it. I think it would be good for your truck with the exhaust and the CAI. I got one because I was unhappy with transmission shift points.

he told me that it was married and didnt mention anything about divorce so i will have to ask him wednesday, the next time i see him. i talked to Franchi and he said that yes, if its married then i would have to send it in to sct and pay a 150 dollar fee to have it unlocked.. that 150 might steer me away from getting it... really sucks bc he is giving me such a great deal on the combo.. 200 for the BOTH!

Yes. If it's locked or married to his old vehicle still, only way to unlock it is $150 fee to SCT to unlock it and about a week to two week turnaround timeframe to send it to them in Florida to unlock.

Or return the original vehicle back to OEM with the tuner ( Program Vehicle, Restore to Stock option ) and that will unlock it for the next person.

I also do purchase locked units for set price of $75 as well so if you want to buy a new unlocked SCT SF3 3015 or any other SCT unit, I would give you $75 credit for it.
