Default Scraping-type noise when braking hard in ice/snow

Hello all. I have a 2010 Scab bought used 2.5 years ago. Since buying the truck, I have had a strange issue when braking hard in the ice or snow. It sounds and feels like harsh scraping when it seems it should be locking up. It is scraping combined with a quick, regular tapping (to put it nicely) that seems like something is trying to catch. It hasn't happened much over the years since I try to avoid braking hard in the ice/snow, but recently it has been happening more regularly and with less pressure applied to the brake pedal.

I am not mechanically inclined and do not really have the knowledge/capability to take apart the brake assembly. I am trying to diagnose the problem because my regular shop couldn't replicate the issue last winter due to lack of snow/ice and it would be nice if I could point them in the right direction.

Thank you!

Sounds like the ABS kicking in to me. However if it's doing it under only very light pressure on the pedal there may be an issue regarding the abs sensors or the module itself. I'd say if it happens even on completely dry roads under moderate braking, get it checked out.

As long as it isn't happening under normal braking in the summer on dry pavement you're good to go!
