MAN! That is really something to have happened to you.....One thing that I would consider asking for is a new set of rear tires. Depending on how far you slid them when locked up, you more than likely flat spotted them pretty well.....you cannot balance a severely flat spotted tire at all.

I was reading another thread on this forum with the exact same differential failure only his pumpkin busted wide open and the ring gear was exposed.

I wonder if this is going to be a trend with the rear ends? Anyway the other guy said Ford took care of the problem with an entire new rear assembly.

You would have to search to find it but I remember it because his pinion was sheared off just like your pic shows.

I am starting to wonder if ford is getting some bad castings. I had one that got bearing several times before it was quiet, dumped it for a superduty, my wifes also whines on decel and snaps in reverse, two sets of bearings and a new ring and pinion once, still fighting to get it fixed, along with a list of other things. Its like these housings aren't cut straight or they flex to much. Each time we get ours back its quiet for a few hundred mile then the noise comes back

Vehicle not driveable? Understatement of the year, or forum.

Dude - That sucks and strange. It's one of those WTF moments. I would have Ford on the phone ASAP> Glad nobody got hurt.

It could be just me but in one of the pictures, the diff angle looks wrong. Seems to be pointing downwards from the front.

I noticed that right away too, but I think if the pinion angle was the cause the ujoint would have let go first, could be wrong. When that rear diff seized think about how far and how fast that axle wrapped up, prob. bent or stretched or broke ubolts.

Get on Facebook and search for Trina at Ford. Send her a message and she'll help you out.

I'd be contacting a Ford rep and demand immediate action. Hope it all works out well for you!
I had EXACTLY this issue. They performed the TSB 1 week earlier with NO luck to resolve the issue.

They did which I expected but appreciated nonetheless!
