Default Rust on XLT Bumpers, can I install FX4 Bumpers

Hi,

I know I'm not the only one with rusted bumpers on 6 months old F150 with chromed bumpers.

I went to the dealer and they agreed to replaced both bumpers (also front grill and both tow hooks) because there is rust on them after only 6 months.

I asked the dealer if I could get FX4 bumpers instead because I know this rust will come again next spring. The guy at the dealer told me no because they might not fit. I did some research but didn't find any clear answers but I really don't see why they wouldn't fit.

Can someone confirm that bumpers and front grill are the same on XLT and FX4

Thanks

They should be identical because they are basically identical pickups.

However, an FX4 bumper is painted so it won't be as tough as a chrome XLT bumper. In the end it's all up to you.

What do you mean by not as tough? What is underneath the paint?

I have an FX4 and think my bumpers are plenty tough. Had it for almost 6 months and no rust!

I know they don't rust, this is why I wanted them instead of the chromed one... and also because I like them better ;-)

Cheers

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as a smart ***. I'm on your side. The dealer is bull****ting you. It's F-150 and there is no difference between an XLT and FX model except for options like the painted bumper.

From all the personal experiences I've read on here, the chrome is stronger than the paint. The metal underneath is the same but I'm talking about the coating, whether it be chrome or paint. Maybe you'll have better luck.

I think by "not as tough" he meant, that you'll have a painted bumper now...and you'll have a rock chip/road rash issue. I think...thats how I read it! Haha!

But you can always get that clear film applied on the paint

No worries, didn't think you were being a smart *** ;-)

The dealer didn't say this wouldn't fit... He said he didn't know so he didn't want to order them.

Thanks
