Thule is hard to beat! Functional, and good looking. And easily removed.

You might find some ideas in this older thread...

I was looking to mount bikes, not kayaks, but tried quite a few different solutions before I settled on what I liked...

I tried yakima/thule racks over the cab... Found them too difficult to load and *extremely* noisy.

I tried bars spanning the bed... Found them to limiting for other cargo and they blocked the roll-up cover unless they were quite elevated.

Ended up going with a custom solution mounted directly to the bed rails.




If I did go with a roof rack, I think I'd choose a BajaRack on permanently mounted Yakima tracks. I think much of the roof rack noise was from the clips on the doors rather than the rack itself, so permanently mounted tracks might make the setup much quieter.
