Default Rigid Dually Aux Reverse Lights Wiring

Not too good with wiring, but I'm wondering the best (and safest) way to hook up the Rigid Duallys as aux reverse lights? Directly to the battery? Should I tie them into the trailer lighting, with the switch in the cab? I don't want them to come on every time I back up, only when I flip the switch. Should be good for hooking up the boat and trailer. Thanks in advance.

FWIW I searched, and came away pretty confused. I think directly to the battery is going to be the way for me, that way I'm not putting excess load on other wiring in the truck. Can someone show me a diagram for using a relay directly from the battery? Thanks.

Source power from trailer harness tt 30amp circuit to hot coil on relay, tag reverse in trailer harness to toggle, toggle to trigger side of relay. Relay common to lights

I ran a wire from the battery, through a fuse, to the relay contact 1. Contact 2 went to the aux reverse lights. (10G wire, black loom protection, wirewrapped along existing wiring)

I bridged the coil top connection to the relay contact tab which goes to the battery. Then, ran a wire from the coil bottom, through the firewall, to a switch. From the other side of the switch, I went to ground.

This is a little reversed than normal- using a negative to turn the lights on. But this way, if there is a short in my line through the firewall, no fuse will blow but the lights will come on. Big deal. Also this way, you don't have to find a 12V source in the cab or accidentally blow a fuse with something else on the cct if your relay blows a fuse.

Works fine.

Go to autozone. Buy some wire and a switch 14-18 guage. Moumt your switch. Run a wire fromyour battery tontheswitch. Then from the switch to the lights and ground it. Its very simple

Or stop being a lala and realize your lights only draw 2amps so just wire directly to trailer reverse lamp wire and be done

I'm not a complete noob to automotive wiring however I've never owned a trailer or a vehicle that had a hitch/wire harness installed. I am assuming that this will mod will cause the aftermarket lights to come on once the truck is put in reverse??? And would this not be the same as taping into the wire for reverse in the tail lamp?? Again not a noob just trying to get a better understanding of your option.

I wonder if you could install say a marine switch (or another variant for outdoor use) and mount it in the corner of the box near the tailgate/tail lamp area. The manual switch would be used to turn the lights on and off from outside the cab say if you are working in the night behind the truck
