My update - new ballasts seemed to work for about a day, then started having trouble. Manually switching lights on.

90% of the time my drivers headlight goes on, and passenger stays off,

9% of the time they both don't work

1% they both activate.

TRS is sending me a warranty set of upgraded ballasts, they put out more voltage , about 25% stronger, apparently will help for cold starts as I live in Winnipeg MB Canada, -43 windchill yesterday!

Also sending a new relay under warranty.

I will post results in several weeks once parts arrive.

Well I've officially started my retrofits! I picked up a set of FX take-offs, and today I got them disassembled. Splitting the lights was a bit of a pain, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting. My kit from TRS should be here in a week or so, then the fun begins!

I'm going with 3" FX-R, panamara shrouds, and 50W 5000K bulbs/ballast. No halos. I plan on painting the bucket sterling grey (or grey metallic), and the shrouds gloss black with grey or flat black windows. I will probably tint the orange reflectors, and possibly paint the signal light bucket gloss black. I like the tinted turn signal lens but I am not brave enough to try to tint that as it is part of the main headlight lens.

I'm really looking forward to having some decent headlights! I hate the glade candle lights my truck came with!

I will try to take pics of the progress, and I'll post as I go. Wish me luck!

The new style of ballasts. Approx 25% stronger current/voltage to help with pulsing HIDs on warmup. They had many warranty claims and morimoto manufactured a stronger ballast. The new ballast is also physically slightly thicker.

Maybe revised product would have been more accurate description. But supposed to solve my problems anyway... As I consistently drive with one headlight functional.

The ballast is now labeled from SS to DSS I believe , I could check my email if you like

I have many, and I mean MANY emails from TRS supporting the fact that lots of ballasts need to be warrantied. If they give you trouble claiming warranty, I can forward you my emails with them. :-) BUT maybe after I have had my issue resolved so they don't deny me quickly out if spite!

How recently are these issues coming up?

I've seen one failure, but it wasn't my vehicle, my 35w ballasts have been just fine for 2 years. How long have you guys with issues had them?
