Had a ballast failure. I just recently developed the same "flicker on for a few miliseconds then shut off" problem I've been having with my driver's side ballast because one pin on the bulb was broken and I thought it wasn't getting a good connection. I replaced the bulb that has 2 perfectly good studs and it was fine until last night. A perfectly good connection and the flicker for a few milliseconds issue happens again. So I switched the driver's side ballast with the passenger's side headlight and it still didn't work. This leads me to think the driver's side ballast failed?

Correct. Its probably a trashed ballast.

What kind of ballast do you have?

Morimoto 5five. I even brought it out where there's more airflow because it was acting up. I think the problem is in the connector itself.

These things are nothing but problems. I can't live with them, but tonight proves that I can't live without them either they have a dark, dark history.. but hopefully a "bright" future.

I have been using the 3five ballasts for over a year - exposed to open elements, not a single issue.

Q: to install the mini h1 retro on a 2013 f150, do I need to physically modify the headlight assembly ? The retrofit source makes a comment that for some h13 applications (not specifically mentioning f150), sanding the back of the headlight assy may be needed.

You don't have to do anything but take them apart to put the projector inside.
