I wouldn't rush it.
You've got quite a bit of cutting/trimming to do. Your adhesion material (probably JB Weld if in a halogen bucket) needs time to set up, not to mention you have to align them and get the cutoffs horizontal.
It'll soon be easy to see why the retrofitters charge what they do and take the amount of time they need/require for a proper retrofit.
Take your time, if you have time to allow for it.

I have the Morimoto 5Five ballasts and the auto feature worked for a bit then after a but one ballast went bad. Warrantied another but have been using manual since.
It's weird because now if I start the truck and try turning them on I get the passenger to fire only and have to turn them off and back in and they both fire. This only happens once in a while and never if I wait 20-30 after starting truck.
I'm pretty confused as these are supposed to be mid to top of the line ballasts and they have these quirks whereas my cheaper 35 watt digital ballasts from no name brand work with auto lights for almost three years before putting retros in. I read about all the auto light issues and disregarded it as my cheap ones worked fine and always fired no matter what for years.
Would be interesting to find out why the Morimotos won't allow you to use auto light feature.

In all my reading I have seen that people have had issues with the other ballasts which persuaded me to spend the extra money on a kit with ballasts that are used OE by vehicle manufacturers. That doesn't mean I'll be free from issues, but one can hope!
Good info on the waiting to re-seal after painting! I totally would have slapped it all together way too soon and messed things up

Not sure. No offence to anyone that uses it, but I have no use for auto lights. I am quite capable of determining when I need my lights on. I'll do manual due to better light but still confused as how cheaper ballasts act better with stock auto lights vs nicer Morimotos.
I was sent a link stating that TRS is working on a totally new ballast that will fix these issues.
