Default Resonator delete

Wondering if any of you guys took the resonator out of your ecoboosts and running stock exhaust? I want the truck to sound a little nicer, but don't want drone like my 2009 5.4 had with the magnaflow. Obviously that was a v8, so you can't compare...

Do the turbos get a little more noticeable too?

the resonator helps with back pressure. i would leave it alone so you don't lose torque.

It wouldn't hurt to remove it. Turbocharged engines don't need back pressure downstream of the turbos. You could straight pipe it, but it would sound like chit.

The first "muffler like" thing is is the resonator, right? My 2009 f-150 only had the main muffler. So the main muffler would still add some back pressure and contain some sound?

There were a few guys that commented on an Ecoboost exhaust thread that tried to remove the resonator like you said, and no one really heard the different.. so most guys ended up going through the hassle of deleting it for a waste of $$. but you are correct, the mini muffler looking thing is the resonator. If u search u might even be able to find the sound clip! I think there was one.

Thanks. This saves me the hassle of taking it off for nothing..

I did the delete with the stock catback. Truck is just slightly louder and kinda sounds like a stock v8 at idle. Turbo sound is more noticeable too.

I've tried removing resonators on a few different vehicles for a tad more rumble than stock and the conclusion every single time has been that it wasn't really worth doing. I saved myself the hassle this time around and just went straight for a catback.

I did the res delete, hardly any change at all except when you really get on the gas. Maybe a 5 db increase.

If you want to hear the turbos whistle get a catless downpipe.
