Requirements for towing
Hi I am new to this forum and a new f150 owner. I used to drive a Mustang for the last 6 years and I just got a 2009 F150.
I am moving from Maryland to Maine in a month and I need to rent a UHaul trailer to attach to my truck to get my belongings to my new place in Maine.
I am brand new to this so i'm sure this seems like a stupid question! But what are the specifics to the trailer hitch that I need to purchase in able to drive a uhaul trailor 500 miles.
Any help would be GREAT,
Thanks
Costa

Congrats on your new truck. No tow package?? Maybe this will help. Good luck.

Here's a handy booklet that Ford published that gives some basic trailering info and tips. You may find it useful if you haven't got much trailering experience.

I would go something like your basic hidden hitch or a reese or something. They come specific for your truck, you can usually get a really good deal on the hitch itself and a ball. Since I seriously doubt you will go over 3500 to 5k lbs I would go with an interchangeable ball. perferably the 3 pack (1 1 7/8, 2, 2 5/16) but the std (1 7/8, 2in) combo should suffice. just about all uhauls will be 2in. btw, you really didnt get a hitch on your truck?!
