Replacing turn signal lever

Replacing turn signal lever
Hello, so I accidentally broke the turn signal lever on my 11 F150. I went to the dealer, they wanted to charge me $230.00 to replace it, 200 of it being labor charges. They said Ford wont cover it since they probably would deem it as abuse. I bought the lever and decided I would attempt to tackle the job myself. I wanted to know if anyone has done this before and if they have how hard of a job is it. Thanks in advance.

I was getting in the truck and almost fell of the step bar and my weight fell on the lever. It is my fault 100%, but I thought the same regarding warranty, it is what it is, but I am not about to make the greedy dealers richer by charging an absurd amount to replace a lever.

I suspect that the dealer has the authority to cover things like this under warranty as a goodwill gesture to their customer.
If you haven't done so, you should ask the Service Manager and explain that those darn factory installed steps are so slick. If that doesn't work, sometimes a trip to the dealer manager's office will work. After all, they will want to sell you your next new one and he/she will know that your service experience is a good predictor of whether they sell the next one or another dealer does.
Having been a former Service Manager, I have first hand experience in this. My manager always told me that the sales department sells the customer their first vehicle and the service department sells the customer the rest.
Best of luck and if that doesn't work, I would try another dealer.

Sorry, pet peeve of mine. SuperDutys have one. Expeditions have one. Dodge Rams and Toyota Tundras have one. F-150s (and Chevy Silverados) do not.

Tell me again why you think someone else should pay for this.

As for the labor cost: Many (many) years ago I had a turn lever in a beater Mercury stop working. As it was necessary for the (then) inspections I decided to have it fixed. I watched two techs spend about an hour pulling the steering wheel, crawling under the dash, pulling the new cables and then putting it all back. It was a LOT of work.

There is alot to pull to get to that switch. #1 is the airbag. If you do not properly handle and de-energize it properly, $230.00 will look like pocket change. You will be out a couple thousand! Honestly, I am not sure that I would attempt it. Ifyou do not get it reassembled properly you could have problems with your horn and steering wheel switches. Too risky for me!! And second to where is the grab handle?? My 08 had one.

I would go to the Service Department and say, could you help me out? I broke the turn signal off my truck and I bought a new one but hate to pay you to put it on. Can you print me out the service page on how to do this or do you have a tech that could give me some how too's.
I haven't had the plastic off my steering column but from reading this how too on the 03, doesn't sound like you have to remove the steering wheel like you used to on the older trucks. Probably similar and easy.
Got a picture of the new signal switch?
