Replacing steering column 2010 SCrew

So... after 3 trips to the dealership... they are now able to diagnose a knock in my 2010's steering wheel. I now have 50k miles on the truck... but have been documenting the issue since before the warranty was up. They say that I need a new steering column and that Ford has agreed to cover the repair... as long as I pay a $100 deductible. It sounds like they are just trying to get $100 out of me in a way I'm not sure Ford would approve of. What do you guys think?
The problem with the wheel... for those that are wondering... It started as a knock when I would turn the wheel and now if you can feel a pop if you move the wheel forward and back. Thanks. ~Dave

I'm curious to hear more about what was happening with your wheel.

When I turn mine I get a click or something like that. I feel it more than hear it. It happens in just about the same spot each time, happens in both directions too, but at different points R vs. L.

Steering feels fine otherwise, and doesn't feel like its related to the wheels or anything in the front end. It really feels like something right in the column near the wheel.

Thank you,
-Matt

I have a 2009 and just got mine fixed under my extended warranty. I would hear a pop in the steering column not in the suspension and they replaced it and the pop is gone!

I could've sworn that I have been hearing a pop but wasn't sure if it was just in my head. I only hear it sometimes but I think I'm going to take it to the dealer so they can start documenting it now

my 09 was popping too when turning, this was several weeks ago, but it seemed to have quit for now. I do have an extended warranty if it comes back and gets worse.

Right... but what about the whole "$100 deductible" issue? Legit or BS? I've already chalked it up as a win... but I'm curious...

The $100 deductible sounds like crap to me. If it was documented before the warranty was up, I think it should have been covered (completely).

I think it will make a difference in how you documented it. If you were just keeping note of it at home, probably paying the deductible is as good as your gonna get. There is no real way to prove that you weren't just writing down this problem after the fact.
If you documented it with the dealership or who ever was working on the truck I would try to get the deductible dropped as it was a reported problem that they did nothing about.

2010 F150 Steering Column Clicking Sound

Hi all. I've seen a lot of questions about drivers hearing a clicking sound coming from the steering column while turning. It is from a "worn steering shaft" at the base of the steering column. I had to replace my entire steering column at 10,000 miles and now I'm having to replace it again at 22,000. I'm not sure what causes it to get worn so quickly.

I drive downtown a lot, up and down large hills everyday (on the road) and over some very hard speed bumps in my parking garage, but other than that, no towing or unusual things have happened. I keep it in perfect condition. So, I assume it's probably either a fluke or just a weak part design.

I hope that helps you all out!
