Question Replacing Crappy Factory Speakers

Hello all, new to the board so please don't attack me for asking something that might be hidden on these boards...

So, I love my truck, but the audio system is about as horrid as I've heard on a $30k+ vehicle. That said, I've found that there are 4 6x8's and I'm wondering what you guys have gone with that sound good. I'm older now, 32, so not too concerned with breaking glass, but want good crisp clean sound with some fill-in bass instead of popping and crappy highs.

Thanks and look forward to contributing!

I'm 16 so cracking glass is right up my alley, but I went with pioneer 6x8's in the back without an amp, one fosgate 12" P1 sub running off of a 500W max amp & mounted under the seat in a custom box I built, and two Hertz 168 Power components up front (I think that's the right number, but I'm too lazy to go look) running off a 100W RMS x 2ch. amp. It sounds great, nice and clean - and loud! I'd definitely recommend Hertz.

I replaced mine with JL Audio 5x7s. I have a 4 Channel Amp but yet to install. Sounds much better but without the amp doesn't do the speakers justice. I may use the amp to power the fronts and add a 10" sub. Not sure yet but you're right Ford should be ashamed of the sound system they are putting in our trucks.

I almost prefer starting with crappy speakers, that way you know you didn't waste any $ on a speaker system when you upgrade. Then again, it all depends on whether or not you can live with a factory setup... Personally, I couldn't.

If you'd rather do it yourself, mine was a total of $50 I think, but I had a few things lying around. Probably more like $60 if you go the DIY route.

I replaced all four in mine. You can hear the difference when playing via USB or CD. With the radio or SAT, the fidelity isn't there to make a difference.
