Replacing 26-gallon tank with 36-gallon tank: EcoBoost engine
There is thread several pages long and two years old on this topic at this link:
https://www.f150forum.com/f38/26-gal...113471/index5/
That thread has lots of wrong info in it, but if you read it all you can probably figure out how to get the job done.
I thought I would start a new thead, then ask the mods to make it a sticy.
To save you having to wade through several pages in the above-linked thread, the following is a copy of my post with all the part numbers required to complete the project.

Replace 26-gallon tank with 36-gallon tank on 2012 F-150 SuperCrew EcoBoost 4x2:
Well, on first shot we didn't order all the parts required. Way back early in the (other) thread someone mentioned he had to replace the fuel lines above the tank, and he was right. Here's the final list of the parts we used, with prices from
www.tousleyfordparts.com
DL3Z9002C = 36 GALLON TANK: $680.65
BL3Z9A032A = HEAT SHIELD: $57.29
9L3Z9H307F = SENDER & PUMP ASY: $201.41
4L3Z9276AA = GASKET (for fuel sender unit): $9.56
9L3Z9J279C = TUBE ASY (gas lines): $122.34
-------------------------------------
Total parts ordered: $1071.25
shop supplies: $4.18
------------------------------------
Total parts $1075.53

Note that after the mechanical work is done, the Tech must reset the computer to recognize the 36-gallon tank and have the correct miles-to-empty calculation. My tech used the following instructions located over a year ago in (the other) thread:

i am a master ford technition. you can now do the swap and the computer can be programmed for new tank size. just tell them to go to programable parameters and select fuel. you can change to 36 gallon tank now. after done need to self test system. if come up with a p160a code need to go to powertrain, then service functions, then relearn vehicle data. ids must be at version 77a.06 or newer to do this. this can only be done on 2011 and 2012 ecoboost engines. will not work with 3.7, 5.0, or 6.2 engines.
Note that "ids" is Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS):
That was posted before the 2013 models came out, but I'll bet the same procedures will work for a 2013 EcoBoost. I filled up with gas first thing, and my miles-to-empty jumped up to over 600 miles. So the computer fix seemed to work.

Note that when I decided to do this mod, my research indicated it could be done for around $1,000 out the door. The discount price for the new tank was about $420. But then Ford stopped production of that part number, and the new part number is a lot more expensive. Plus I had to have the longer gas lines, so that raised the price too.
If I had know that the out-the-door price would be almost $1400, I probably wouldn't have gone ahead with it. But now that I have it, I'm glad. We'll try it out Wednesday when we tow to Wichita Falls and probably return on Friday or Saturday.

For 2013 model year, all 4x2s have the 26-gallon tank. Plus the regular cab shorty has the 26-gallon tank, whether 4x2 or 4x4. Otherwise all 4x4s have the 36-gallon tank.
Basically the same rules for 2012 except 4x2 Harley Davidson trim included the 36-gallon tank.
The rules were different for earlier years. But some F-150s came with 26-gallon tanks.
Nobody knows why.
