how many have replaced their front struts? what kind and what type? did you get the full assembly or swap out the springs? i'm just looking for some that are 1-2 steps up from stock, like gas charged. i have found a auto store called primechoice they have a nitrogen gas strut for $120 pr. what's your thoughts? thanks...

Most aftermarket struts (and all stock struts) don't last more than 40k miles. Bilstein will go 100k. I have 42k miles in 7 yrs and I replaced my rears at 39k miles with Bilstein 5100s and it was a HUGE difference. The stock rears were still fine but they were valved for a load and not an empty truck which is why hitting a pothole (or crack in the road) is bone-jarring. The fronts still work fine so I haven't changed it out yet. The front and rear of my truck is balanced now.

Another Ford fail.
Why do trucks need "struts"?
My 1995 had plain old shocks , about $25 per pair and easy to change.
When I checked them at 89K miles, during its first brake job, they were fine, did not need changing.

I think those are the ones I put on my 05, made a nice difference. Unfortunately a FedEx truck hit me and totaled the truck, so no longevity report.

I went with Rancho Quick Lifts. 175.00 each. It is a coil over and has a 2 inch lift nothing crazy.

I still enjoy my Bilsteins 5100 all around have 50k on them and they still ride way better than new stocks.

I dont like going from a specific spring rate to a universal like the ranchos. Ill stick to swapping springs or getting new from the dealer.

They aren't struts, they are coil over shocks. Coil over shocks are the best way of controlling a suspension. It may not be cheap, but it's FAR superior in ride quality to a separate spring and shock setup. A coil over can have a much softer spring than a divorced setup. A softer spring means a better ride.

Bought Eibach front struts. Much better than OEM at 38k miles. Better large undulation body control with large undulations, marginally better handling, more complaint when hitting uneven rough surfaces.

Then what would call them?

Everyone else in the automotive industry would call them struts.
