Default Paint Problem

Good evening everyone,
Over the past few months, I noticed some chips of paint in my driveway, I figured it was from the under carriage but because of winter, I couldn't investigate. Last week I replace my wheels from winters to summers and when I performed a TMPS reset, I noticed that the paint chips were from the front passenger side fender but right at the corner of the door. I thought to myself that it wasn't normal to see such a huge chunk of paint that peeled off so I called Ford of Canada and they told me to bring it to the dealership for further evaluation. When I got to the dealership, the service tech told me that it was normal wear and tear. His argument was that the road close to the curb is full of rocks and sand and being on the passenger side, it is normal that the paint chipped from the flying debris. I then told him that it should be the same case in the rear fender as well. He couldn't answer. It so happened that a rep from a body shop was there and showed him the problem spot, he too said it was normal and the sand on the road is like sandblasting when driving over it.
I personally think that Ford screwed up on the paint job. I have been driving 40 years and have never seen anything like this before. My truck is 7 years old and has 100 000kms(60 000miles). The truck is in immaculate condition and people think the truck is brand new.
Can anyone that has any experience with automotive paint explain to me what could have possibly happened?
Thanks in advance

It all starts with a little paint chip. Water gets in there freezes and expands, lifting up more paint. Surface rust will then help delaminate the paint.

Inspecting your paint job before/after the cold season, filing any cracks/chips is the best practice especially in colder regions. Luckily I live in a dry/hot area.

Hate to say it, but you are never going to get them to pay for that. I have been driving 30 years and I see rust around wheels every day. Pretty hard to prevent, really. The stock wheel well covers and flares help quite a bit, having a plastic barrier.

You just said it, your truck is 7 years old and has 100,000 Kilometers on it. Paint is not armor and will and does chip and fall off. I would find some stock like fender flares and touch the paint that chipped away and put them on. Molded mud flaps might be far enough up to cover that area also.

looks damned good for 7 years old...surprised it isn't much worse. I guess...I am wondering if you feel they should NEVER rust out or have paint come off? That isn't...realistic.

I think the OPs bigger question here is why it's such a large piece that flaked off - though it is very likely that some water/grit/salt/crap got under a chip and helped it on it's way.

Thanks for the reply. Before my 2104 F150, I had a 1997 F150 and would have the usual rock chips on the hood but never on the fender like this. But I do appreciate your input. After I buy a paint repair kit, I will definitely buy mud guards of get a protective film installed.

Exactly...it's one thing a rock chip but a chuck of paint, doesn't seem normal considering I live in a big city with paved roads. I never drive on dirt roads nor do any off road.
But this is why I figured I would ask here and get a second opinion.
Thanks.

I've seen this happen before, it's just poor paint adhesion, i would imagine common on the lips (it's where i saw it before) i'd bet just a little poor prep and again, something got up under one section and slowly lifted it from the inside.

Much worse? Seriously? You think that a 6" chuck of missing paint looks damned good? And yes, I wish they would never rust but that wouldn't be realistic.
