I am removing the pole. And don't call me Shirley.

I never use it and it gets in the way more than enough times that I want to take it off. The step is awesome though.

I bought the panel from my dealer for $62 and gave me the plastic tailgate cover free.

Are these steps at the beginning of this thread still accurate? I'm getting ready to remove this pole/handle and replace with the panel on my new '13 FX4 before line-x.

I don't know why u would want to remove the pole in the first place. As far as someone saying it gets in the way; how does it possibly get in the way of anything? It's folded away secure. Not like it is permanently sticking up. To each his own I guess. I'm a great believer in Your Truck, Your Choice.

I would like to remove mine as well, I eat lunch on my tailgate at work and the pole is not very comfortable to try to sit on. But I like the step and want to line x the tailgate to match my bed

I just did this and it took longer to find the tools than it did to do the change. I bought the parts from ford and was about 90 bucks. I'm using my bed rug from my 2011 and will just cover it up with that and you won't even know its there. If I want, I can always put the poll back on. That pole would have killed my hunting dogs legs as they use that tailgate as a landing pad when there 6 feet away they jump on the tailgate so fast that they slide a feet before going in their kennel.....Will post photo's soon.
