The dealership I went to did it free of charge - it takes about 45 seconds. Lol at $50. What a freaking ripoff.
Amazing what people will do for you when you are simply nice.
Look up a thread on here for VSS upgrade. As long as you have the hood switch, it will take less than an hour to install the whole shooting match.

45 secs is b/s, IDS takes longer than that just to boot up.
Most dealers charge 1hr labor, rates vary geographically. If you think my rate of $50 is a rip off maybe you could go talk to the dealer I bought my truck from and have them refund me the $90 they charged me.
VSS = vehicle speed sensor so I'm not sure why you would bring that into the thread other than you have no idea what your talking about.
Feel privileged you live where it's free, (Utopia)? every where else you have to pay to play.

The dealer installed mine and cut keys and programmed mine for less than $100. I watched the program part and it does take about 10 - 15 minutes from the time he plugs it in to drill down in the IDS to the settings and make the changes...then confirm on the truck dash screen that the changes "took". So if you figure labor rates @ $100/hr. or so...that's $25 to program.

Not quite, paying for labor is much like paying for a part, you won't get a part at cost or the maker would go broke, the same thing applies to labor. There is an industry standard (usually Chilton) that sets a reasonable amount of time for a job, if the tech beats that time, he's making $$ and paying bills, if he takes the exact amount of time then he breaks even and usually juggles bills between paydays, if he takes longer then he's losing $$ losing his mortgage, selling his tools to eat and POOF!!! no longer employed and homeless.

Heck, I'd be happy to find a dealer in my area that would do it for a reasonable price. I am all for supporting local franchises and business owners.
I went to my local Ford Dealer (Royal Oak Ford in Royal Oak, MI) asking about having the 100 series "Plug and Play" remote (P/N: BC3Z-19G364-A ) installed after looking it up on their website. According to their website, it was 268.71+100.00 installation plus tax. It would come to a grand total of 390.83 with our 6% sales tax. Though more than I want to spend it is something I could save my pennies for. Well, when I talked to a service writer, he said it would be almost $600. When I told him that their own web-site said just under $400, he just shrugged his shoulders.
They didn't even offer to honor the web price for installation.
If I could only find someone willing to do the programming, I could install it myself and get the keys cut on my own.
Very frustrating!

.etc program the key fob as well. Then I would call another dealership to have activated. I also suggest taking instructions so they can see and read first hand how to activate it. It took me like 3 times with 2 different dealership before I got mine done

I installed the kit myself, got the keys cut for free at Home Depot (if you aren't buying the keys from Home Depot they do it at no charge, but if the keys don't work, it's your loss). Once the keys are cut, you can program them so long as you have both original keys - if you only have one key, you have to go to the dealer. The cheapest I could get a dealer to do the programming was $50 - but it was due for a free oil change, so I got it programmed plus an oil change for $50. I was pretty happy with that.

Lol bought my 04 a couple months ago. got keys and fobs off ebay (only had 1). Had keys cut at local CO-OP for free. Local dealership wanted $80 per key to program the cut keys and $40 to plug in and get my factory code for the door keypad.
