If you want fuel mileage and good power, buy a Ford Focus and put 5.13 gears in your truck. That's the only way. 7-8 is gonna be about it.

^ Yeah he is. 100lb+ tires, a ton of lift and the 4.6 engine. Sunk thousands of dollars into it and somehow still worried about squeezing out a few more MPG like it would make a difference in the truck's lifetime.

Come on man! :P

Yes I am lol. I'm on a low budget bc I'm 18 working part time but my truck is my life I have a little over 20k in the truck including the price of the truck itself. I plan on swapping a 4btA into next year I'll do the swap at my college as I'm in diesel mechanics school

And I never said anything about increasing the life of my motor. Gears will save my trans if it's not already hurt and what's a few mpg better gonna hurt. I understand I will never get great gas mileage I was just hoping I could get it to around 10 instead of 7. That's all. I think I'm gonna settle for 4.88 Yukon gears and Yukon master overhaul kit. I'm gonna run royal purple synthetic in it and I have to order a new set of spider gears bc mine are starting to strip bc the 38s and -76 offset wheels have really put it under stress in the last year of driving it every day. This is my daily driver. I put all of my money into it.

Cheap, reliable, modified. Pick two. As a daily driver on a budget? I know where I would go.

When I was your age, (holy crap I just said that...) I had an 85 bronco that was sitting on 35's and had a 3" lift. It lasted a year. The body was shot. The next choice was a 91 dynasty.

sounds like you have not recalibrated your speedometer. that seems like way to0 high of an rpm for that speed, with those tires and gears. I'm running 285/65/18 with 3.31 gears, and i think i'm around 2000 rpms running 70.

a motor running slower does not always equal better mpg. they all have a "sweet spot". ex: my gear/tire choice gets better mpg at 80 than 70.

and i agree with the others. once you lift/add big tires, your aerodynamics go to crap, and you will never get good mileage again. gotta pay to play.

There are a huge difference between your 32" tires and his 38's....

With 37s and 4.88s I'm right at 2,200rpms at ~80mph.
